Gifts come in all shapes and forms. Wrapping your gift directly can sometimes be a dead giveaway of what’s inside, especially if it has a recognizable shape, which takes away from the excitement of receiving a present.

For that reason, it’s recommended that you always keep your present inside a suitable gift box. Lucky for you, most giftable items come in suitable-sized plain boxes for easy wrapping. However, if you don’t have one, standard boxes are available in all shapes and sizes! 

To get the proper size, measure the maximum length, width, and height of your gift, then get a box that is slightly larger for secure housing.

Wrapping paper comes in a huge variety of designs whether you’re buying it online or from a store. 

Keep in mind that the amount of wrapping paper you want will depend on the size of your present and the gift box, so make sure that you get a proper-sized uncut roll.

As a rule of thumb, the wrapping paper should have a width that is larger than the width of your box. You’ll also need more than double the height of the box. 

For instance, if your box is 5 inches wide and 2 inches high, you need wrapping paper that is 8 or more inches wide and 4 or more inches long.

Ribbons add a touch of elegance and regality to your gift. Similar to the wrapping paper, make sure that you get enough ribbons to wrap the whole present.

To guarantee clean cuts with no ridges, get sharp scissors that are designed to cut paper. Clear tape is also an essential item to hold everything in place properly.

Start by finding a clear and flat space to place your items. Remove all price tags from the present and pack them inside the gift box carefully, then seal the box with tape for security. Make sure to add any protective padding if the gift is fragile.

Step 2: Place the Box over the Wrapping Paper

Unroll your wrapping paper without cutting it, then put your gift box upside down so that the seams of the box are eventually at the bottom. 

The box should be in the middle of the wrapping paper so that the width is enough to cover both sides comfortably. 

Step 3: Start Folding the Wrapping Paper on One Side

Reach for the loose end of the wrapping paper and fold it up over its own side of the gift box. Make sure that the wrapping paper is pulled tightly and reaches at least 1 inch over the top of the box, then secure it with a piece of tape.

From the opposite side, pull the wrapping paper so that it overlaps over the previous part, then cut across the wrapping paper so that you maintain 1 inch of overlapping. Make sure that the cut is a straight line.

With the top and bottom done, the sides will be sticking out. Turn the box to the side and push the flaps of wrapping paper inwards, so that they’re tucked inside. 

Crease the triangular flaps that are left then tuck them in so that both flaps overlap over each other, then secure them with tape. Repeat the same steps for the other side of the box.

Step 6: Add Your Final Touches to the Gift

Now that the box is fully wrapped, it’s time to finish it up with your personal touch. This can be a gift card, a ribbon, or a decorative bow.

For cards and bows, you can use any type of tape to hold them secure, but we recommend double-sided tape for the cleanest finish.

As for the ribbon, you’ll need to lay it under the box, then turn the box upside down. After that, bring one end of the ribbon over the other so they make a cross at the bottom. 

Tie a knot using the two ends of the ribbon, then use the scissors to cut off the excess. Keep in mind that tying a ribbon might require some practice, but you’ll be able to pull it off eventually!
