Indirect sunlight is light that does not pass shine directly on a plant at full strength. Indirect light is when the sun is weakened by a medium coming between the light and the plant. When a plant is outside, the indirect sunlight may be caused by clouds covering the sun, or leaves and trees blocking the plant from receiving the full power of the sun. 

What Is Indirect Sunlight?

Indirect sunlight for indoor plants occurs when light is weakened due to a medium in its way. Indoor potted plants at least 3 feet away from a sunny window may cause indirect sunlight to occur. It is well-known that some plants grow better in the shade or partial sun. Tomatoes, for example, are known to love the sun. While they will grow in indirect sunlight, they do the best in direct sunlight.
